– Joshua Hayward, a renowned mixed media artist from the rugged coasts of Nova Scotia, is making waves in the art world with his unique approach to creativity. Now based in the historical ambiance of Winchester, Joshua’s art journey is as diverse as the mediums he employs, reflecting life in its intricate and unpredictable beauty. His work is a testament to his belief that art, much like life, is centered around the process of creation rather than the final outcome.
Joshua’s passion for art extends beyond his personal creations. He has initiated the Art for All Workshops, aimed at sharing the joy of creation and making art accessible to everyone. These workshops foster a community where individuals can explore their creativity without fear of judgment. Joshua demystifies the art-making process, showing it is a natural human expression available to everyone.
As this month’s feature, we have collaborated with Joshua to create a line of buttons featuring three of his compelling art pieces:
“Tower of Teeth”: A striking collage featuring a surreal assemblage of imagery, with a towering stack of teeth as the focal point. The piece conveys a sense of unease, juxtaposing the mundane with the uncanny, symbolizing both vulnerability and the raw power of nature.
“Donald” – This evocative artwork presents a haunting central figure, “Donald,” surrounded by foxes and other elements that hover between reality and imagination. The piece explores themes of innocence lost or the complexities of youth, with the foxes adding an air of mystique and watchfulness.
“i do not understand” – A chaotic and vibrant collage that grapples with themes of confusion and the journey through life. The phrase “i do not understand” suggests a struggle with the incomprehensible, while the rich mix of imagery invites viewers to delve into the layered emotions within.
Following his feature at Art in the Branches, Joshua is set to display his work at a horror-themed art show this fall. Through his workshops and exhibitions, Joshua continues to share not just art, but a part of who he is, with the world.
